This has been a popular workshop. It seems that the skill of preparing a chicken dinner from a live bird has been quietly passing away over the years.
We aim to equip folks in reversing that trend! Participants will learn how we raise chickens for meat, how we harvest, and the humane proceedures used. We will discuss and demonstrate bleeding, scalding, plucking, eviscerating, cooling and packaging chicken for storage.
Participants will also have an opportunity for "hands on" activities! Each full registration will entitle the participant to one fully dressed chicken (~$15 value) **Class limit 10 |
We offer tours (approximately 1 1/2-2 hours) of the farm during the late spring, summer, and fall seasons that are scheduled around the weather as well as the daily and seasonal needs of our farm business.
These tours are educational in nature in that folks are allowed to see what a multi- (versus mono-) farm animal specie, traditional, authentic, sustainable, pasture-based, organic farm looks like and will gain an understanding of why we farm the way we do. This is also an opportunity to see one of the last originally homesteaded farms remaining in our district.

Our Basic Food workshop will cover the essentials you need to know about basic food production. Designed for beginning gardeners of all ages, we will cover soils, plants, seeds, and harvesting of food plants. Participants will leave with the skills necessary to get it started right at home!
If you have never planted a garden before and are interested in learning, this session is for you! |
For the curious, the wannabe or the beginning and advanced homesteader, we offer a variety of workshops centered around your needs and educational desires.
These workshops were birthed out of a desire to teach and equip others to grow their own food, as well as due to the number of requests we receive from others who want to know how we do it.
Whether it's -
learning how to build a fence, understanding electric fencing and the different recommendations for each farm animal specie, how to raise healthy sheep, cattle, goats, pigs or chickens, how to manage and achieve healthy pastures, the art and science of making good hay, how to butcher your own hog, how to manage dairy goats -
- we've studied it, done it, practice it and love teaching about it!
Contact us, let us know where your interests lie and we'll see what we can do to set something up.

For those who do not have the finances available to attend a workshop, we also offer real-life learning opportunities on the farm via farm-hand experiences. Sometimes the best teacher is hands-on experience!
For those wanting to forego the gym and get a real workout, we welcome you to try your muscles out on the farm with some genuine farm-hand experience.
For those who simply wish to have the opportunity to get in touch with the way your food is raised or to experience some time in the country on a real farm, we'd love to have you.
In return, we promise you an experience you won't soon forget, as well as a hearty farm-grown meal with our family. |
Have you been gardening for a while and are not happy with your yields? Have weeds got you down? Do your plants get a good start, and then seem to run out of gas? If so, you will benefit from learning more about double digging. This workshop is very popular with all gardeners, and most who attend come away reinvigorated to keep on planting!
We will discuss and demonstrate the advantages of building soil through the double digging method of tillage. You will come away with a better understanding of how your garden plant interact with the soil to produce the highest yields and quality you've ever seen. Double digging, done consistently, will result in fewer weeds, better soil moisture, higher fertility and better yields. Great for vegetable growers or flower growers! |

Many people do not have the opportunity to come to the country and spend a quiet day in contemplation,
or to just sit in silence and behold the sounds and sights of nature
- especially deep in the woods or in the middle of an open pasture of a 160 acre farm.
We would love to extend the opportunity to allow folks the chance to be able to experience this on our farm.
To that end, we are working out the details to make this a reality by the summer of 2008. |
**If you would like to register for any of our workshops, tours, consultations, etc. or if you have any inquiries, just email us!
**Please keep in mind that our availability is dependent upon the daily and seasonal needs of our farm business. Thank you!
